Purls of Wisdom is a playful, in-person fiber lecture series where education meets happy hour. Join us for a lively evening of cocktails, mocktails, and smart fiber talk as we dive into the "why" behind the "how". Each session features approachable, engaging lectures on topics like decoding yarn weights, color theory for colorwork, the mysteries of gauge and swatching, fiber types and their best uses, and even the art of working off-gauge with intention. Whether you're a curious beginner or a seasoned stitcher, come for the knowledge, stay for the drinks... and leave with your skillsets sharper than ever!

June 18: Mastering Yarn Weights: From lace to super bulky, yarn weight affects everything from drape to gauge. Learn how yarn weights are categorized, when to substitute, and how to choose the right yarn for your project.

June 25: The Physiological & Neurological Benefits of Knitting & Crochet: Why does crafting make us feel so good? Explore the science behind knitting and crochet, from stress reduction and mindfulness to memory, focus, and community connection.

July 2: Color Theory for Colorwork: Ever wonder why some color combinations sing while others fall flat? Learn the basics of color theory and gain confidence choosing colors for stranded knitting, mosaic knitting, and beyond.

July 9: Gauge Matters: Gauge may not be glamorous, but it can make or break a project. Discover why swatching matters, how to measure accurately, and when it's worth the extra effort.

July 16: Knitting Off Gauge With Intention: What happens when your gauge doesn't match the pattern? Learn when you can safely knit off gauge, how to make adjustments, and how to turn "close enough" into a successful project.

July 23: Cast On: Our Favorite Methods & When We Use Them: Not all cast-ons are created equal! We'll explore a variety of cast-on methods, their strengths, and which projects they work best for.

July 30: Modifying Patterns to Fit Better: Patterns are a starting point, not a rulebook. Learn simple ways to customize fit and make garments that work for your unique body and style.

August 6: Cast Off: Our Favorite Methods & When We Use Them: The right bind-off can make all the difference. Explore stretchy, structured, decorative, and invisible cast-off methods and when to use each one.

August 13: Fiber Stash Organization: From overflowing bins to beautifully organized collections, we'll share tips for managing your yarn stash, tracking inventory, and finding inspiration in what you already own.

August 20: All About Plant Fiber: Cotton, linen, hemp, bamboo, and more! Learn about the characteristics, strengths, and best uses of plant-based fibers for knitting, crochet, and weaving.

August 27: Needles & Knitting Ergonomics: Your tools matter. We'll discuss needle materials, styles, and ergonomic strategies to help make your crafting experience more comfortable and enjoyable.

September 3: Make Ravelry Work for You!: Ravelry is more than a pattern database. Learn how to use its powerful tools for project tracking, stash management, pattern discovery, and connecting with the fiber community.

September 10: All About Animal Fiber: From sheep and alpaca to yak, cashmere, and beyond, explore the wonderful world of animal fibers and learn how their unique properties affect your finished projects.

All events are from 5-7pm at Fancywork. Cost for the lecture, plus one cocktail or mocktail, is $35 per evening.
