Sea Change Fibers was born by a desire to dye tonal colors on non-superwash bases, primarily from climate responsible producers. The business was founded by Sarah Pederson in 2016 in Portland OR, moving to the Monterey Bay Area for 7 years and is now back in its birthplace of Portland. Sea Change Fibers is a name that reflects both the company's location on the west coast and its commitment to helping the health of the earth as it changes.

Sea Change Fibers' yarn bases are carefully researched and sourced from sustainable fiber producers. Since most of these bases come from small producers, the availability can change over time, bringing in new bases to fill in gaps. All yarn bases to date have  been non-superwash wools – often blended with silk, cashmere or plant fibers – that create soft and durable garments. In keeping with the company's commitment to a healthy environment, the vast majority of these bases are created from climate beneficial wool that is fully traceable from the pasture to the mill.

Vibrant colors are a signature of Sea Change Fibers, inspired by the colors of nature, especially those found in and around the Pacific Ocean and the coastal forests. Sarah loves dyeing and knitting with complex jewel tones as well as tonal neutrals. While they do cycle in new colors frequently, colors are rarely retired unless the dye becomes unavailable. After all, there can never be too many colors!

The dyeing process at Sea Change Fibers involves careful and sustainable use of both water and power with reuse of water for similar colors from light to dark throughout the day, each dye pot dedicated to specific color families. This uses acid dyes in a climate responsible manner, including having solar energy to fuel the dye pots. Part of every purchase from Sea Change Fibers goes to supporting positive change in the world.
