Buttons were always the better choice for Julie Wilson. She still has the genesis of her collection, treasures gifted from her 3rd grade teacher. The collection grew as she sewed her way through all the years of 4-H sewing lessons and county fairs; experiences which finally culminated into a 30-year career as a professional theatrical costuming technician specializing in the accessories, or Costume Props. Her costuming resume includes the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Seattle Opera and other Seattle venues, the 7-part HBO series “John Adams” (drapery department), gigs at the Arena Theatre and the National Shakespeare Theatre, and the Crafts artisan with Cirque du Soleil’s “O” at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. All the while, instead of having a nice pile of fabric for personal projects, the button collection grew.
In 2012 Julie returned to Oregon retiring from costuming and has kept busy restoring cast iron cookware and now, her rescued vintage buttons. She'll be bringing her gorgeous vintage button collection to Fancywork over President's Day weekend. Give your sweaters and accessories – present and future – a face lift!
