Local Yarn Store Day is a national day of celebration honoring that unique and ubiquitously beloved entity, the Local Yarn Store, a place where fiber crafters of all kinds can come together to find inspiration, learn a new skill, get all the yarn, and craft together in community. The above-mentioned are among the things we love about being YOUR local yarn store, but the most cherished of them is the idea of "community."
In addition to celebrating all the things we love about YARN and YARN SHOPS, we are thrilled to support and celebrate our Community Giving partner, Hearts Unknown Education (HÙE).
Hearts Unknown Education (HÙE), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Bend that uses the creative arts to offer imaginative experiences in a safe and supportive environment, guiding young people (K-12) who may be struggling emotionally‚ particularly those with anxiety or depression, or who may be having a tough time coping with the state of the world. HÙE's creative wellness programs foster free expression while encouraging youth to explore their inner selves and emotions through art.
As has become our tradition, we're once again holding our HÙGE Community Giving Raffle, benefiting HÙE! Loads of sweater quantities of really beautiful yarn, interchangeable needle sets, kits, gifts, and so much more will be raffled off to many lucky winners. 100% of proceeds from raffle ticket sales will be donated to Hearts Unknown Education in support of their programming for Central Oregon youth.

What's a Knitalong (or Crochetalong, or Makealong)?
A knitalong (KAL), Crochetalong (CAL) or Makealong (MAL) is a social event designed to bring the maker community together around a specific pattern or yarn – or sometimes both. Enjoy connecting with others while knitting or crocheting the same garment or working with a particular yarn together. This is a fantastic time to gather together with others in our fiber arts community, enjoy camaraderie, and get a little guidance and project support along the way.
What ISN'T a Knitalong/Crochetalong/Makealong?
A KAL/CAL/MAL is not a class. You should be reasonably familiar with the techniques required to work through the project at hand. However, help is never far away! If you ever find yourself in need of extended project support, drop in to our Help Session, offered weekly on Saturdays from 1-3pm.

In Session 1, we’ll dive into what mosaic knitting is, how it differs from other colorwork techniques, and how to choose colors that bring out the best in your project. We’ll also walk through how to read mosaic charts and then get started by casting on and beginning the kerchief together.
In Session 2, we’ll focus on troubleshooting and perfecting your project. We’ll cover how to recognize and fix common mistakes in mosaic knitting and offer tips for keeping your stitches consistent and neat. This session is also a great opportunity to ask questions, get personalized help, and gain the confidence to finish your kerchief with success. Whether you’re new to mosaic knitting or looking to refine your skills, this class will leave you inspired and equipped to add this fun technique to your knitting toolbox.
Materials: Two contrasting skeins of DK-weight yarn, one fractal spun and one solid. We recommend Feederbrook Farms Entropy DK and BFL Solids for this project. Please bring a 24-36" US 6 circular needle, stitch markers, tapestry needle and scissors.

Our Learn to Crochet class is designed for never-before crocheters to gain proficiency with the fundamental stitches that form the basis of a world of gorgeous textural designs. In this two-session class, we will learn the 3 foundational stitches that make up most of crochet: single, half-double, and double. You'll also gain proficiency with chaining, slip stitches, and how to hold your hook and yarn.
Bonus: Once you've completed Learn to Crochet or have equivalent skills, expand your quiver with our continuing classes, covering projects like lacy washcloths, cozies, beanies and wine totes – all designed to teach new stitches and build skills one upon another.

In this three-hour workshop, Ilana will help guide you into understanding of how animal fibers are prepared and then spun into the delightful yarn we love to use and collect.

Kuutar is a Finnish word meaning “the lady of the moon” or “the goddess of moon.” This elegant summer top is knitted seamlessly top-down starting at the neckband. The sleeves and body are separated at the underarm and knitted separately. The back is shaped with short-rows to give it a bit more length and to improve the fit.
We suggest knitting Kuutar Tee in Elemental Effects Coastal, a sport-weight blend of 50% Shaniko wool, 25% mulberry silk, and 25% Belgian flax.
Materials: 590-1260 yards, depending on size, of sport-weight yarn, such as Elemental Effects Coastal. (Don't worry, we're happy help you determine yardage.) Suggested needle sizes: US 2.5 circular knitting needles in 16" and 32-40" lengths, plus US 2.5 DPNs (or longer circular needles for Magic Loop). US 3 circular knitting needles in 16-40" length plus US 2.5 DPNs (or longer circular needles for Magic Loop), or sizes required to get listed pattern gauge. Darning needle, 4 stitch markers, including a unique one for BOR, and a pair of scissors.

We’ll start with a breakdown of brioche basics, including how the stitch pattern works, tips for managing tension, and how to handle yarn placement in two colors. You’ll cast on for your hat in class and begin working through the pattern with guidance and support.
As the class continues, we’ll dive deeper into the nuances of brioche, including increasing and decreasing within the stitch pattern, troubleshooting common issues, and reading your stitches to keep track of where you are. Along the way, you’ll gain confidence and a deeper understanding of how brioche fabric is built. By the end of the class, you'll not only have a great start on your Harlow hat, but also the foundational skills to tackle future brioche projects with ease and enthusiasm.

Help Sessions are offered on a first-come, first-served drop-in basis, with space for 6 at a time. Stop by the shop and get back on the road to happy stitching again each Wednesday and Saturday from 1:00-3:00pm.
Weekly on Thursdays from 1-3pm
Bring your crochet projects and join fellow crocheters at Fancywork every Thursday from 1-3pm. This 2-hour hook session is designed specifically to foster community among the crochet crew. All skill levels are welcome in this weekly drop-in event. No need to reserve a spot ahead of time. Just join us in the shop. We can't wait to see what you're working on!
Please note: While we encourage crochet for people of all ages, this event is geared towards ages 18 and above. If you are interested in a crochet event for you or someone you care for under the age of 18, please let us know. We'd love to put together an event just for the younger set!
Held on the First Friday of every month from 5-7pm!
Join us on the First Friday evening of every month for a FREE community gathering of stitches. We’ll keep the doors open from 5-7pm for community stitching time paired with refreshments, raffles, and discounts on select items.
Bring Your Own Cup (BYOC) if possible please. Space is limited in our small shop and seating is available on a first come, first served basis. We can't wait to welcome you, your project and your great big smile!
In this class, we'll use Pacific Knit Co.'s Doodle Decks – a creative collection of colorwork motifs presented as a deck of cards – that you can mix and match for endless customization.
A Doodle Deck and 2 balls of Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift are included with your class registration.
At the end of class you'll be ready to cast on a winter's worth of show stopping stranded colorwork projects spanning the range from accessories to traditional Scandinavian colorwork sweaters and everything in between!
Materials: Materials included with your class registration are one Doodle Deck and two balls of Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift (all items are limited to available stock on hand). Please bring a 24" US 4 and a 24" US 5 circular needle, stitch markers, tapestry needle and scissors.
