EEEK! For many knitters, the mere thought of steeking - cutting your precious pullover to turn it into a cardigan - is a nauseating prospect. But it needn't be! Nordic knitters have successfully been steeking since they first picked up knitting needles. You can do it, too!

Out of stock

In this class you'll learn to liberate your pullovers into cardigans in Icelandic Lopapeysa-style. Working in miniature and with first-hand knowledge passed from Icelandic Knitter, Hélène Magnusson to your instructors, we'll share the secret super powers of knitting stranded colorwork cardigans with Icelandic wool. In order to lessen the anxiety of steeking, our project will be a doll-sized sweater perfect for holiday gifting to a little loved one or keeping as a reminder to yourself that you can do amazing things!

Your takeaways from this class will include color selection, color dominance and proper tension in stranded colorwork knitting, bottom-up construction, using short-row shaping in ingenious places for a better fit, building in that all-important steek gusset and how to make sure your sweater doesn't unravel on you. Then we will fearlessly and deftly cut our cute sweaters right up the center, pick up a tidy edge and learn how to finish with either a button band or a zipper!

Along the way we'll talk about Icelandic sheep, the history of the iconic lopapeysa, and why knitting with lopi yarn is different than knitting with other yarns.

All materials and equipment other than knitting needles will be included for this class. Plus we'll have a little gift for you at the end to celebrate your success. Join us for what's sure to be a wildly fun class!

Materials: Yarn and pattern are included. Please bring size US 9 needles in your preferred method for small circumference knitting in the round: double-pointed needles, long circular needles for Magic Loop, or Flexi-Flips, a tapestry needle and pair of nice sharp scissors.

Prerequisite skills: Casting on, joining to knit in the round, knitting, purling, knitting small circumferences in the round, and binding off.

Instructors: Elise Jones & Danni Supplee
