Estonian Hat Knitting

Note: This is a two-session class.
Time: Wednesdays, September 21 & 28, from 1-3 pm

What You Will Learn:
Take an armchair journey to Estonia with our very own world-traveling knitting instructor, Kris Redmond. Kris was inspired by her travels to design Nancy’s Hat, a beautiful drawstring top hat incorporating the Estonian knitting techniques she mastered there. While knitting Nancy’s Hat, you’ll learn the Braided Estonian Cast-on, Front Twist Braid, Horizontal Braid and Roositud. Kris will also share information and photos from trip. Bring your needles and sense of adventure for this very interesting class! Pattern provided.

Materials:
Yarn: Softly spun fingering weight yarn such as The Fibre Co., Amble. Main Color: (1) 100g hank in a light color, plus (3) contrasting colors, 25g each. One contrasting color needs to be dark.
Sample uses The Fibre Co. Amble in colorways: MC: Scafell Pike, CC1: Seawall, CC2: Yellow Earl, CC3: Blackback
Needles: US 4,  16″ circular and DPNs or long circular for magic loop, or size needed to get gauge. Pattern gauge is 7 stitches per inch.
Other items to bring: Tape measure and basic knitting notions

Stranded Colorwork Hat

Time: Sundays, September 18 & 25, from 12-2 pm

What You Will Learn:
Dive head first into colorwork knitting! This two-session class will get you started on the path to creating intricate and addictive stranded colorwork patterns. Through the process of knitting the Zando Hat, designed by Enikö Balogh, we’ll discuss the importance of value in color selection for your stranded colorwork projects, swatching for colorwork, color dominance, managing float tension and more. You’ll come away with a beautiful hat to wear proudly all fall and winter.

Materials:
Yarn: Two highly contrasting colors of DK-weight yarn, such as Dapple or Arbor from Brooklyn Tweed. Optional accent color in a small amount for a single round for the cast on edge accent.
Sample uses Brooklyn Tweed Dapple in the following colorways: MC: Currant, CC1: Natural, Accent Edge: Medallion
