Spinning on a Drop Spindle - December

Have you ever been interested in how yarn is made? No need to prick your finger on a spinning wheel to find out! The drop spindle is a beginner friendly, needle-less, and portable way to dip your toes into the spinning world. With this two-hour workshop, you will gain an understanding of how animal fibers are spun into the delightful yarn we love to use and collect. In the class, materials will be included and fun is 100% guaranteed!

 

What you’ll learn:

The stages before yarn:

• Different fibers
• Tops, batts, roving, rolags, etc…
• Staple length

Making yarn with a top whorl drop spindle:

• What is a top whorl drop spindle?
• Park and draft method
• Plying
• Other techniques

Included in your class registration fee:

• 1.5 oz Ashford top whorl drop spindle.
• Beginning fiber kit
• Ilana’s basic drop spinners guide book

Class meets December 10th from 2:30-4:30.pm
