Kirigami Hat KAL with Brooklyn Tweed
Dip into knitting tessellated motifs! The Kirigami Hat from Brooklyn Tweed features an all-over interplay of knit, purl, and decreased stitches result in high relief texture that casts dramatic shadows at the crown, as if cut and folded into its final form, akin to the technique utilized for its namesake. Tessellations – motifs that interlock without gaps or overlaps – are as old and pervasive as design itself; they can be found in some of the most ancient examples of human craft, and were famously used in the modern era by the artist M.C. Escher. The hat is worked circularly from brim to crown and the motifs are worked from charts only – offering an opportunity to up your chart reading game. Work this hat in Brooklyn Tweed’s Arbor for bold heft, or in Peerie for a lighter fabric akin to paper.
The Kirigami Hat KAL will kick off on Tuesday, November 27 from 1-3pm and meet weekly for three weeks, wrapping up on December 11th – in plenty of time for gift giving season! As usual, we’ll have project support, encouragement, friendship, merriment, prizes, and a Finished Object Fashion Show! Join us for this fun event!
Fancywork KALs are free to participate in, but we ask that you kindly buy the yarn at our shop. Stop in the shop to choose your yarn and register for the knit along.
